Freestyle Fridays

We are at it again- I have slowly plugging away at the new features for Chester Bowl and finally they are done- we even got to test some of them out and let me tell ya, this winter is going to be off the hook at the Bowl. PRIVATEER is again putting on an event this year on February 25 so mark your calendars and come out to ride whatever wacky ideas we have ( we have some sweet ones coming through the pipes!).

I would like to thank some folks for helping me out with building the new features. First I would like to thanks my dad, Randy, without him and the use of his garage, tools and beer every single feature at Chester would not be in existence. TJ is one of the people responsible for starting Freestyle Fridays and has been a driving force in helping grow the program as of late I need to thank him for helping haul everything around and for the use of his truck, YEHAW,  and Ryan for fronting cash for materials

For those of you who do not know what, where and why Chester Bowl is the bee's knees check out the Website or better yet stop by and check out one of Duluth's best kept secrets.

Also here is the Freestyle Fridays 2010-2011 Events poster!

Neoproto was one of my favorite movie crews while in high school. I must have watched the series a million times. The Neoproto crew turned into the People crew

Floss This

I don’t floss.

And, no matter how many dental hygienists glare at me from behind their little, baby-blue, paper masks, which undoubtedly hide scowls of disgust, will I ever change my ways. My position on flossing is nothing new, not a New Year’s resolution, nor an epiphany. For as long as I can remember I have harbored discontent towards flossing and would go as far to say that I am a staunch supporter of the underground, anti-flossing movement. In my opinion, it takes a special individual with an interest in self- mutilation, to want to wake up and cram a minty piece of string into the crevasses of their teeth. Often, these individuals are shocked when their gums respond by bleeding. Then, these individuals reason that “I must not be flossing enough!” No my friends, you aren’t flossing enough. In fact, I can tell by your charming, blood-stained, smile that you need to step up your flossing to three times a day. Even better, your dentist recommends that you trade in your floss for a used shoe-lace; that will surely make your pearly-whites more attractive. So, to all you anxious, gap-toothed, floss wielding masses of the world- while you are busy shunning me for my lack of concern towards dental hygiene I am out buying Skittles and Pixy Sticks for your children to binge on. Happy Halloween. Suckers.

Forget Snowboarding- Sell Your soul to Corporate America!

RANT TIME!

As snowboarding reaches a new peak in the mountain range that is popularity, we find ourselves in a position to buy into giant, name brand, super-companies (like Nike, and The North Face) swooping in from their sky scrappers to sell you the newest best thing since sliced bread; or, we can stick with companies that actually have been with snowboarding from an early time. Companies like Ride, and even Burton were with snowboarding before the dollar signs started to appear. Even companies like Arbor and Airblaster actually promote having responsible fun and actually promote something other than themselves (Arbor promoting eco responsible snowboard manufacturing and Airblaster promoting having fun and being goofy, not just looking like everyone else)

Granted super-companies like Nike can dump a ton of money into the development of just one boot thus pushing the limit as to what a snowboard boot could be. North Face can make a killer jacket with the years of outerwear manufacturing experience. BUT, is it really worth choking out the companies that were here from the start?

Twin Cities

In the St. Paul town and surrounding areas with the lady for  a much needed vacation. On the agenda; the MN State Fair and Valley Fair and MN Science museum. Going to try and squeeze in Dinky Town and a tour at the Wabasha Street Caves to fulfill all my touristy inclinations!

Will be printing some lovely t-shirts upon my return to Duluth.

Keep an eye out for PRIVATEER's contribution to Chester Bowls 2010-2011 terrain park- I have been providing free labor for the park all summer building new rails as well as refurbishing the box and flat bar seen on the hill last year. I had the great opportunity to be a camp counselor at Chester Bowl's summer camp program and let me tell ya, these kids are pumped for winter and for Freestyle Fridays to kick off!

That's all for now!

WE PRINT!

HEY YA'LL I just finished building a four color screen printer the other day. It's made of 95% recycled material! My grandfather tore down a garage that used to house parts for giant machines used for logging and stuff and he was nice enough to give me the lumber from it! The wood leaky, oily, parts for years giving the whole screen printer a ton of character! NO BUYING AN OVER-PRICED, STALE, SCREEN PRINTER FOR THIS GUY!

Any who- expect to see shirts hot off the press soon!

Damn Good Music

We have been long time fans of Atmosphere around here. I clearly remember counting down the days before Seven's Travels way back in high school; spending countless hours trying to find long lost mix tapes online with dial-up internet on a shitty computer; and wishing I was 21 to get into his shows.

Since high-school Atmosphere has released a ton of stuff that really kicks ass but I will always dig Lucy Ford and God Loves Ugly the most; please check them out- you will not be disappointed!

This is an older song that was remixed(that version is a little more popular) SUPER GOOD!

Homegrown 2010!

I regretfully didn't spend very much of my week out and about enjoying music (finals are coming up and I need to be on point). However, I did make it to the Trampled by Turtles show at the Norshore theater last night and it was AMAZING! You need to see these guys! Alan Sparhawk even jumped up and played a few songs with them which rocked the room's socks off!

Crew Jones played a two am show at Luce to finish Homegrown, if you weren't there I am sorry for you! Crew put a hell of a show! Great job Duluth for putting on a great week of shows!

Welcome!

Have you ever wondered why every clothing company prints t-shirts in some sweatshop in a far away land like Indonesia? Way back in 2004 my friend Brandon, my little brother Nathan and I, asked ourselves that question. We were tired of wearing the same shirts as everyone else and not knowing the story behind the art printed onto the clothing we wear; so, we decided we would start printing our own t-shirts. Today my brother and I are in college and Brandon is off in California learning to speak Russian for the Air Force,  but what started  in 2004 is still alive and well today. PRIVATEER reflects the creativity, variety and fun that comes with living along the north shore of Lake Superior, which is where we hand print every t-shirt! I hope you enjoy our art and we thank you for your support!
